CottageBee POS — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-20
CottageBee POS (“the app”) is the point-of-sale companion app for CottageBee, the honey stand and bakery software platform. Merchants who use CottageBee (for example, a market honey stand or bakery) install the app on their own devices to record sales. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and what happens to that data.
Who this app is for
CottageBee POS is an operational tool for merchant staff, not a consumer app. It is installed on a merchant's own devices (and, during testing, on a closed group of testers' devices) and connects that device to the merchant's account on the CottageBee platform. It does not create accounts for the general public.
What the app accesses
Camera. The app uses the device camera to scan product QR/barcodes and the pairing QR code. Camera frames are processed on the device to read codes and are not stored, saved, or transmitted. No photos or video are recorded.
Sale and payment metadata. When a sale is completed, the app records the items sold, quantities, prices, totals, the payment method (cash or card), and — for card payments handled by a connected payment app (e.g. Square) — the transaction identifiers returned by that app. This information is stored locally on the device and synchronized to the merchant's account on the CottageBee backend.
Device pairing token. To connect to the CottageBee backend, the app stores a pairing token in the device's encrypted storage. It is used only to authenticate the device to the merchant's CottageBee account.
What the app does NOT do
- It does not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.
- It does not collect personal information from customers (no names, emails, phone numbers, or customer accounts).
- It does not store camera images or video.
- It does not process card numbers or handle cardholder data itself — card payments are handed off to a separate, PCI-compliant payment app (e.g. Square), and only that app's returned transaction identifiers are recorded.
Where data goes
Sale and payment metadata is sent only to the CottageBee backend, where it is associated with the merchant's own account for their business records (inventory, sales reporting). It is not sold or shared for advertising. Card transactions are processed by the connected payment provider under that provider's own privacy policy and terms.
Data retention
Sale records are retained in the merchant's CottageBee account as business records. Locally queued sales on the device are cleared once synchronized. The pairing token remains until the device is unpaired or the app is uninstalled.
